Monday 11 May

Reading: 
Read a story from Literacy Planet, Sunshine Classics or from your library shelf at home.

IALT: Write dialogue (characters talking) to match the picture. 

Activity: Draw a picture of your favourite part of the story. Label the characters with their names and draw speech bubbles out of the character’s mouth. Speech bubbles can look like the examples below. 
                           

In these bubbles, write what they could be saying to one another in the drawing. It doesn’t have to be the same from the book, it just has to make sense with the picture.

IALT: describe what happened in a movie clip. 

Watch the following clip: ‘Catch It’   

Describe how the meerkats worked as a team to save their precious fruit. What sport were you reminded of when they were passing back and forth?

How did you feel about what happened at the end of the clip and how does this compare to how the meerkats felt? 

Always remember to use full stops and capital letters. Try using other punctuation, such as exclamation marks.

Extra’s

Technology:

Think of 2 items you have at home and imagine you can combine them to make something new!
Eg: A table and a radio can turn into a tabio. “This is a table that has speakers, so you can enjoy listening to music right next to you while having a meal.”

Create a drawing of your new invention and include what you have named it. Write a sentence about what it does. Think of different items you can combine. The quirkier the better!

IALT: recreate the end of a story by thinking about cause and effect. 

Activity: You have 3 wishes. Think about what was happening half way through your story. Pretend a genie appeared and granted your main character 3 wishes. What would they wish for and why? Have a conversation with someone in your family about how this could have changed the end of the story.

IALT: Write a Haiku poem about one of your favourite things. 

Haiku’s are a form of traditional Japanese poetry.  
There are only 3 lines of writing in a Haiku. The first line has 5 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables and the last line has 5 syllables.

Here is an example below about the beach:
Sand scatters on the beach. (Sand scat-ters on the beach) = 5 syllables
Waves crash on the sandy shores. (Waves crash on sand-y shores) = 7 syllables
Blue water shimmers. (Blue wat-er shim-mers) = 5 syllables. 

Now draw a picture about your favourite thing or activity and write a Haiku to go with this!

Can you place six ladybirds into the box so that there are just two ladybirds in every column and every row?

Can you find other ways of doing it?

Alternatively draw a 3 x 3 box and use other items to complete this activity.

Cut, fold and glue together the fitness dice below (you may need an adult to help with this). Roll the dice and complete whatever the activity is it lands on. Try starting with 10 repetitions each time and build up to more.

IALT: Find and explain the meaning of new or unknown words 

Activity: See if you can find 3 new words in your story. Write them down on a piece of paper and find out what the meaning is using your dictionary or click on the link for the kids online dictionary link 
Think of a sentence to make using the word. See the example below: 
Word: Roam
Meaning from the dictionary: to go or go over from place to place without a plan
Sentence: I am going to roam the big hill with my dog.

Activity: From the book you have read, make a book report to show your understanding. Below is a template you can use or else you can create your own on a piece of paper including the following headings below. You will need to add some pictures. 
Headings: Title, Characters, Setting, What happened, Favourite part and a picture of the front cover of the book.

Activity: Choose 2 characters in your book. In the chart below, write the characteristics (personality) of one of the characters on the left. Do the same for the second character on the right hand side. In the middle part, write any words that match up for both characters.
