IALT: Retell the key elements of a story (Who, what, when,where and problem)

 

Activity: After reading your fiction story, complete the questions below and retell the story from start to finish to your mum, dad or siblings.

Pretend you are one of the Meerkats and write what happened. Think about including the 5 W’s and 1 H - Who, What, When, Where, Why and How. This will help you add more detail in your story.

Using a piece of paper, practise writing your lowercase and uppercase Nn.

Try and write a silly sentence that has all words beginning with n e.g. Natalie needed nine nuggets.

Reading

Read a story from Literacy Planet, Sunshine Classics or from your library shelf at home.

 

IALT: find and compare 2 characters in a story/stories 

Activity: After reading 1 or 2 stories, find 2 characters you like. Then:

  • Draw and write the character's name in the first 2 clouds. 

  • Think about how they are similar and write it down.
    EXAMPLE: They are both kind to their friends.

  • Think about how they are different and write it down.
    EXAMPLE: One is a boy, one is a girl.

IALT: Use adjectives to describe the nouns in the picture 


Using the picture, label the parts of the whale first. Once you have labelled all the parts, think about some adjectives (describing words) for each part of the whale e.g. body (noun) gigantic (adjective). 



Once you have labelled the nouns and adjectives, write your nouns and adjectives into full sentences.

IALT: retell the story in our own words/pictures 


Activity: Choose a story that you listened to. Write the title down and circle if it is a fiction or nonfiction story. Draw a picture for the beginning, middle and end and give the story a star rating (1 star - not very good...5 stars - very good story) . Share and explain the story sequence with your mum, dad or sibling.
